Background
Willoughby Ukestars is an evening group of ukulele performers who are either based in the the Willoughby Local Government Area or are students of Ian Porter. It is NOT a typical ‘hum and strum’ group. We set a higher standard by playing well-known pieces with additional picking, solos and multi-part arrangements. It will help if you can read some notation and know basic scales, but there’s always a strumming part anyway. If you have attended one of Ian’s courses you will automatically qualify.
We usually rehearse for about an hour, have a short drinks break and then use the remaining time to play anything the group wants to play, including open -mic, grey book.
The group plays at community events and markets including in Chatswood Mall, That Great Market, Royal North Shore Hospital, Carols in The Park
We meet on 3rd Wednesday evening (normally, but check home page for any updates) at Willoughby Park Bowling Cub, 7pm-9pm, $10 cover.
You can share material on the first evening if you have never been before.

About Ian Porter
Ian Porter is a Sydney-based community musician who brings the social joys and technical skills of music to a broad audience. He is also a certified James Hill Ukulele Initiative teacher, Founding Secretary of the Australian Ukulele Teachers and Leaders Association Inc. and Musical Director of The Australian Ukulele Orchestra. In 2019 Ian started the Annual Willoughby Ukulele Orchestra workshop to explore multi-part arrangements using the ukulele. See the events section for more details of upcoming workshops this year
