Background
This is a 7-week course held in the evenings, each course totalling 14 hours of face to face class time. Most ukulele classes out these are only 10 hours or less.. So don’t miss out on this great offer!
All class material works for soprano, concert and tenor ukulele. This course does not suit a learner of baritone or Tahitian ukulele.
We recommend you try Ukulele Mate (online) Gladesville Guitar Factory, Big Music (Crows Nest), Turramurra Music, or Mall Music (Macquarie) to buy your ukulele – spend as much as you can afford and try to ensure they sell you one that will stay in tune! Some ukes are available for loan and purchase from me, please advise when booking.
Not essential, but if you have attended a beginner workshop or know a couple of things about this instrument already this course is great revision and will sort out some bad habits and we will spend considerably more time in teaching the fundamentals. It is structured and aims to provide you with the ideal platform to go on to a local ukulele club with confidence or take a more advanced course later on. We do expect you to put in a little practice between lessons on this one.
Reading music is not essential, but is an advantage; we will cover all you need on the theory front, (and yes there is some, but we make it meaningful and ukulele focused – its all about patterns).
Singing is not essential, but highly encouraged – even shower-singing.
We cover a lot! Be prepared.
Starting at the very beginning, learn a bit of history, ukuleles sizes, how to hold, how to sit/stand, names of strings, proper strumming technique using both thumb and fingers. Basic finger picking, and basic strumming patterns (more than 30). Enough chord shapes to be able to play literally 1000s of songs. Over a dozen songs in detail in the repertoire, including lullabies, pop songs, standards and a couple of songs of your choosing (if technically possible). Practice tips, care and maintenance.
You get stacks of hand-outs covering technique, chords and repertoire. Each week a short video recap is posted to a private video list so you can follow along with the material in the comfort of your own home.
Total course fee $200, $50 payable in advance, balance in cash on the night.
Look forward to seeing you there!
